CHRYSTAL LEIGH

Chrystal Leigh has charted on country radio, earned more than 5 million streams and multiple award nominations with her country duo Sons of Daughters, showcased on Scott Borchetta’s (Big Machine) TV show The Launch (Nikki Sixx/Dann Huff), performed for and made fans out of rock legends AC/DC, sang on Dave “Rave” Ogilvie’s (NIN/Manson) Jakalope industrial project, co-written with Carly Rae Jepsen, Shawn Hook, Olivia Penalva, Chris Buck, and much more.

“When Sons of Daughters broke up after eight years in the spring of 2021, I felt a major loss of identity” Chrystal says.   “I realized I didn’t know who I was when left to stand on my own two feet and that really shocked me”.  She claims the “pause” she experienced  during the 2020 pandemic also gave her time to re-evaluate her life and helped kick-start a self-discovery process.  “I felt as though I was falling out of love with music but in reality, I just wasn’t on the right path and I wasn’t writing music that was true to me”.

While expressing her creative frustrations with an actor friend over dinner, Chrystal was asked if she ever considered getting into acting. That question sparked a slew of serendipitous events that eventually led her to become a member of an acting studio in Nashville, TN called The 4th Wall and a few short months thereafter she was chosen by her mentors to direct her first short film for the 2021 “4th Wall Short Film challenge”.  “The film community has been a true blessing in my life, never in my life have I experienced such camaraderie with people who truly inspire and encourage vulnerability and honesty.” Chrystal boasts, “It’s amazing to be a part of a community that truly wants to see people win, this new creative outlet in my life has encouraged me to get to know myself better and as a result, has helped shape me into a better songwriter”.

When not dabbling in her acting/directing/voice-over career, Chrystal will be working on writing and recording her solo debut for the remaining of 2021, at this early stage she describes the musical direction as an amalgamation of all the genres she’s been involved in over the years.  “I want to take my time discovering my new sound.  It’s important to me that this new music is coming from an honest and real space, I feel I owe that to myself”.

“Afraid of Flying,” a darker, melancholy single, is set to be released this winter of 2021.  “This song speaks to the fear of falling in love and touches on the age old theory that all good things eventually come to an end.”

While it sounds like a lyric about taking a chance on love, it obviously could be a metaphor for this new brave chapter in her career — without the falling bit.

“The film community has been a true blessing in my life, never in my life have I experienced such camaraderie with people who truly inspire and encourage vulnerability and honesty.”
